Full-time High School
Mandarin Teacher (beginning August, 2008)
To
teach Mandarin to high school students grades 9-12, including planning,
classroom instruction, assessment, grading and collaborative work with other
Mandarin teachers, as well as responsibilities in other aspects of student life.
Successful
candidates should have:
-- a Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in Chinese
language and literature, linguistics, applied linguistics, or East Asia regional studies;
-- advanced
(Master's level) coursework in second language acquisition, pedagogy and/or
language education;
-- three or more years’ experience teaching Mandarin as a
second language and/or to advanced Mandarin bilinguals;
-- familiarity with
aspects of curriculum design and assessment practices;
-- demonstrated
proficiency with communicative-oriented teaching and learning;
-- demonstrated
proficiency explaining language concepts to young learners;
--
demonstrated ability to use technology in the context of language teaching;
-- native to near-native “standard” spoken Mandarin (oral proficiency at a 2B level as defined by the
Putonghua Shuiping Kaoshi or Advanced-low ACTFL OPI for non-native
Mandarin speakers);
-- native to near-native English language
ability;
-- familiarity with an American and/or
English-based professional and cultural environment, and able to work within an
internationally diverse school community.
