The Middlebury College Department of Chinese seeks a Visiting
Assistant Professor or Visiting Lecturer for a one-year term position
in Chinese language and culture, beginning September 2008.
Qualifications: expertise in (and experience teaching) Chinese
language, literature, or related field, and native or near-native
fluency in Mandarin and English; some preference given to candidates
with Ph.D. in hand or ABD but proven ability to teach advanced
Chinese is most important. The successful candidate will teach two
courses per semester, including: 2nd-year Chinese; Classical Chinese;
an advanced Chinese language course that teaches students to read,
analyze and discuss articles about complex social issues; and an
advanced Chinese language course that teaches students the language
and culture of doing business in China. The successful candidate will
also teach 1st- or 2nd-year drills classes in all semesters and co-
teach 1st-year Chinese course in January term. Evidence of commitment
to dynamic, effective undergraduate teaching is crucial. Send letter
