Language And Culture Instructor: U.S. Department of State, the Foreign
Service Institute, Arlington, VA
Would you like to use your fluency in another language to help
strengthen and improve the United States' relationship with other
countries? Would you like to work with the Foreign Service Officers and
Specialists who represent the United States abroad? Then this may be the
job for you!
You will be a Language and Culture Instructor in the U.S. Department of
State, at the Foreign Service Institute in Arlington, VA. The Foreign
Service Institute is currently recruiting two Language and Culture
Instructors in Mandarin Chinese.
In your position as Language and Culture Instructor you will:
Teach speaking, reading, listening comprehension and writing (if
required) skills to a full range of students at all levels of language
proficiency
Your responsibilities may include:
* provide major substantive input for the planning, design,
development and evaluation of the course content;
* develop or modify materials for students with specialized needs
and further develop his/her skills and expertise by participating in
training activities;
* evaluate student progress and counsel students regarding study
methods, time management, etc.;
* participate in the determination of course effectiveness, the
need for curriculum revisions, and develop assessment measures;
* administer proficiency tests, both in the capacity of a tester
and examiner;
* represent FSI and/or present papers on pedagogical issues at
academic conferences at a national or international level and at
interagency meetings;
The Foreign Service Institute: The Foreign Service Institute is the
Federal Government's primary training institution for officers and
support personnel of the U.S. foreign affairs community, preparing
American diplomats and other professionals to advance U.S. foreign
affairs interests overseas and in Washington.
Requirements: Native or near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese.
Salary: $48,108 to $75,669 (starting salaries vary and may be based in
part on superior academic achievement and/or previous work experience).
