In August of 2009, the state of Utah is beginning nine elementary
Chinese immersion programs. The schools seek applicants for full-time
first grade teachers qualified to teach the core content of the state's
curriculum using the medium of Mandarin Chinese.

Qualifications include
- a bachelor's degree in elementary education or related field

the ability to nurture children
- experience in the elementary classroom
- native or near-native proficiency in spoken and written Chinese
- familiarity with best practices for second language immersion pedagogy
- strong English language skills
- deep familiarity with Chinese culture
- a commitment to working collaboratively with other teachers to build
a strong immersion program and to support the general school community
- strong interpersonal skills
- comfort in dealing with multiple and diverse constituencies

Early childhood education training preferred.
