2008 Francis W. Parker School, Chicago, IL

Francis W. Parker School in Chicago, IL is seeking a dynamic,
innovative, and experienced part-time Mandarin Chinese teacher to join
our expert faculty in the Languages and Cultural Studies Department
beginning September 2008. This position involves teaching three levels
of Mandarin Chinese with the intention of expanding to four levels in
the 2009-2010 school year. Once the program has expanded to four
levels, the position would then become a full-time, tenure-track,
teaching position. Opportunities to coach, participate in our community
service program, and lead student extracurricular activities are also
available.

Required Qualifications:

  • M.A. or Ph.D. in Chinese, Asian Studies, or a closely related discipline
  • Fluency in both Mandarin Chinese and English
  • Upper school classroom experience
  • Excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and emotional maturity
  • An affinity for working with adolescents in a progressive education environment
  • A willingness to learn and improve professionally

Strongly Preferred Qualifications:

  • Personal and professional interest in and knowledge of a wide range of Asian literature and cultures
  • Significant travel, work, and/or living experience in China
  • Interest in extra-curricular involvement with students
  • A demonstrated commitment to community service

Compensation:
Commensurate with background and experience.
